Party at a Glance:

Who celebrated: Ayelet and Isaac for their son Liam

How old: Two!

Theme: Construction

This party was mostly DIY decoration designed by Ayelet, the mom. Her creativity and brilliance came together to make a party so amazing that the guests came up to her after the party and said, “you just raised the bar for the rest of us.” Here’s how she did it.

The first place Ayelet turned to for inspiration was Pinterest. There, she found many buds of ideas and started to branch out. She ordered construction cups, toy dump trucks, and helmets on Amazon. In addition, Ayelet bought small chalkboard signs, “Birthday Zone” party tape, decorations, shovel spoons, small trucks for party favors and small crafts items. After buying everything she needed for the party, Ayelet had two giant suitcases filled with supplies to have the best party ever.

“I wanted to make every aspect of the party construction themed, even the food.” Not only did Ayelet put the food in trucks and helmets, but she labeled each snack with a creative caption. For example, the Bugle snacks were “traffic cones” and the circular chips were, “spare tires.” But the creativity didn’t stop there! Ayelet bought chocolate in the shape of rocks and placed a construction truck to look like it was scooping them out.

As for the main meal, hot dogs were the way to go. It was a “do it yourself” type of station, but seeing as the theme is construction, the sign read, “build a hot dog.” The utensils were tied together with a string and note that said, “tools.” The condiments, ketchup and mustard, were placed in a paint bucket and were to be served using paint brushes.

The cake was a chocolate cake made to look like a construction site, so there were little dump trucks and construction trucks on it. First, the cake had to be baked regularly, then to dig out a hole in the cake to make it look like the construction site.

The main activity for the children was to paint a house made of cardboard. Ayelet and her father built this house before the party, “This was extremely special” she said, “because that way my father got to contribute to the party in a meaningful way. He couldn’t be happier to be able to take part in throwing Liam’s party.”

Her goody bags were in the shape of toolboxes and were filled with construction themed goods. Even the rubber ducks were given away in Liam’s goody bags were ducks with construction hard hats!

Ayelet’s most important tip for anyone thinking of throwing a similar party: “Make sure you get smocks for the kids attending!” For hours after the party, Ayelet’s group chat with the parents was blowing up because the paint was all over their kids and their clothes.
